Wind was coming over the dam with a slight bias away from the clubhouse. Vicious gusts and shifts close to dam, better down wind, but a real struggle to get back in. Supersonic 6.7 felt way overpowered in the gusts so came in to change down. Decided to try more downhaul instead. Had some screaming runs right across the reservoir but the gusts were getting scary so struggled in again.

Changed to 6.2m Vulcan. This was better, easier to handle, but still too much power to gybe in the gusts. 5.3 would have been enough most of the time. The theory was that a bigger sail makes it easier to plane back upwind, but I was having to sail back in off the plane even with the bigger sails because of the gusts and shifts by the dam, so a smaller sail would be no disadvantage here and a lot more fun blasting and gybing
